MAC Program Awards 53 Scholarships

Waco Foundation’s MAC College Money Program hosted its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, July 19 at the McLennan Community College Conference Center. This year, 53 local students received scholarships to help them achieve their college degrees.

Founded in 1995, the MAC Program was established by Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Duncan, Sr. to help McLennan county students obtain a college education, no matter what the students’ financial circumstances may be. The MAC Program partners with local high schools and many community organizations including Prosper Waco’s Project Link, Community in Schools, Voice, MCC’s First Generation Program and other student focused groups to ensure all local students have access to higher education. Since the program’s inception, more than 42,000 local students have received support from the MAC Program.

MAC College Money Program students often work full-time, attend school and help support their families. Many overcome countless obstacles to get into college and the MAC Program provides the extra support they need to help them complete their degrees and launch into thriving careers.

The MAC College Money Program encompasses a three prong approach to helping students:
1. The MAC Program provides personal assistance for financial aid applications;
2. The MAC Program provides education for high school seniors and their parents about the financial aid process;
3. The MAC Program awards grants and scholarships to high achieving, local students with financial need.

Over the last two decades, The MAC Program has awarded more than $7.6 million in scholarships to over 750 local students to help them achieve their college degrees. More than 99% of MAC scholarship recipients complete their degrees and over half of these students stay in Waco to establish their careers.

The MAC Program has become an integral part of the education landscape in McLennan County, and Waco Foundation thanks the many donors and supporters who help contribute to the success of our local students.
