Board of Trustees

Walter Abercrombie is a Waco native who earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Baylor University. Walter was also a celebrated four-year starter for Baylor football and helped lead the team to the 1980 Southwest Conference Championship and two bowl appearances.

In 1982, the Pittsburgh Steelers chose Walter as their number one draft pick, and he remains one of the top ten leading rushers in Steelers history. After an eight season NFL career, he served as the Director of Education and Special Projects at the American Football Coaches Association. Walter retired as the Executive Director of the "B" Association, Baylor's Athletic Alumni Association in 2024. Under his leadership, the “B” Association experienced a marked increase in membership, program support and fundraising through strategic partnerships within the university and Waco community.

In addition to serving as a member of Waco Foundation's Board of Trustees, he also volunteers as a board member for Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center Board. Walter and his wife Kim have four children.
